Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 14th, 2024. It’s a quiet Wednesday, and I had a sudden appointment come up. That works out well for me, but it means a slightly shorter article for all of you today. My promised review will have to wait for another day. Instead, we’ve got a look at the few new releases hitting the eShop today, including the latest Sam & Max remaster. After that, it’s time for the usual lists of new sales and expiring discounts for the day. And that will do it, so let’s get to it!
And with this release, we have all of the Sam & Max games on Switch. Except, you know, the first one. That one is complicated, I suppose. Oh, and the VR game. Okay, look. We now have all of the Telltale Sam & Max games on Switch, and that’s not nothing. The Devil’s Playhouse was the last of the bunch, and it sees our heroic (ish) duo wrapped up an adventure involving aliens, super-powered toys, and weird demons. They don’t make them like this anymore, folks. And they probably never will. I’ll be reviewing this soon.
An adventure game about a cat detective and his virtual assistant. You’ll have to swap between the two of them and use their unique abilities to make progress. The setting is a future metropolis that is run by a powerful AI. When a virus threatens the safety of the entire city, our feline hero steps up to get to the bottom of the case. Not bad, even if it’s a bit on the easy side.
I guess this is a new series Eastasiasoft is doing, which it says is “a line of pixel art games inspired by arcade and console classics". I’m not sure how that’s different from a lot of the games we’ve seen from the publisher, but hey, what can you do? This is a vertical shoot ’em up where instead of a ship you have a hoverbike. It features online leaderboards, permanent upgrades you can buy, and unlockable hoverbike skins. Hm, I don’t know. This all sounds inspired by games that are on computers or mobile, not arcade or consoles. Well, whatever the case, here it is.
(North American eShop, US Prices)
It’s a Nippon Ichi Software sale again, people. I’ve listed some but not all, and if I was going to call out one it would be that absurd 90% off sale on Destiny Connect: Tick-Tock Travelers. Not the best RPG around, but for four bucks? Mmm, I think you’ll get that much out of it. Lots of sales expiring today, with the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters being particularly noteworthy. Unlike other Square Enix games, they rarely go on sale. We might not see them discounted again until Christmas, so grab them if you want them.
